Vagelis Protopapas

Vangelis Protopapas (Greek: Βαγγέλης Πρωτόπαπας, Tinos 1917 - May 21, 1995) was a Greek actor. He was originally from Messolonghi and was the son of a senior judicial officer. His father, Dimitrios Protopapas, a first-instance judge and member of parliament, intended him to be a lawyer, but in his first year of law school he decided to pursue a career as an actor, studying at the National Theatre School where he enrolled in 1937. He interrupted his studies in 1938 for military service, and graduated in 1942, with honors in the top ten. He was a friend of Dimitris Horn, with whom he graduated together, of the director Alexis Solomos, as well as of Melina Mercouri.
