Édith Butler (born Marie Nicole Butler, 27 July 1942) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and folklorist of Acadian descent. Édith Butler was born in Paquetville on the Acadian Peninsula in Gloucester County, New Brunswick. During the 1960s she obtained a Bachelor of Arts, taught school, and then earned a Master’s degree in literature and traditional ethnography at Laval University in 1969.
