Once Upon a Time...
The soap opera portrayed the daily lives of three generations to show that there is no ideal time to love and be happy. The relationship between widower Álvaro and lawyer Bruna is shaken by the arrival of sweet Madalena in the fictional town of Nova Esperança. The young woman is hired as a housekeeper for businessman Xistus, Álvaro's father-in-law, and charms everyone.

Ep 1Chapter 1
Madalena and Maneco run away from Danilo. Bruna pressures Álvaro to get married. Emília snubs Filé. Children scare Berta with a frog. Danilo finds Madalena in Barcelona.

Danilo locks Madalena in a hotel. Xistus punishes his grandchildren by depriving them of food. Bruna forces Álvaro to propose marriage. Maneco saves Madalena. Bruna promises to help the children.

Bruna runs away with the children. Emília is overjoyed to see Júlio again. Maneco and Madalena collect their belongings from the boarding house. Álvaro discovers the punishment and argues with Xistus. Xistus falls ill.

Maneco and Madalena board a ship without knowing they are going to Brazil. Álvaro forbids his children from visiting Xistus. Bruna makes a deal with Xistus. Álvaro proposes to Bruna.

Álvaro steals samples from Pepe's rice field and gives them to Rudy. Xistus pressures Bruna to fulfill the agreement. Álvaro tells his children the news. Madalena arrives in Brazil.

Bruna looks for Horácio. Catulo pressures Xistus to reveal his secret. The children get into mischief and Berta quits her job. Maneco and Madalena read a job advertisement in the newspaper.
