The Breaks
Picking up where the original movie leaves off, it's 1990 in New York City at the height of rap's "Golden Age" of creativity, but corporate America has been hesitant to embrace the genre. Nikki lands a dream job as the assistant to the legendary and out-of-control Barry Fouray. Her best friend and producer DeeVee is working with rapper Ahm who is currently under investigation by the police for murder. How far will these driven young people go to rise to the top of the hip-hop world?
Ep 1Hard To Handle
Nikki begins her first day as Barry Fouray's new assistant, planning a listening party for rapper Special Ed. Ahm demands his tape back from DeeVee.
Ep 2It's Just Begun
At the Ride 95 FM concert, Nikki is tasked with getting rapper D-Rome on stage with Keith Sweat to perform a guest verse. Barry Fouray aims to get face time with label exec Mattie Taylor. Ahm and DeeVee get back into business.
Blind Alley
Nikki attempts to sign rapper Imani X to Barry's new label, but her mother stands in the way; DeeVee takes part in a DJ battle; Ahm and his crew retaliate.
Substitution
Nikki heads down to Philadelphia to save an unstable rapper's tour. Damita interviews Barry Fouray for the Village Voice. Ahm deals with a personal crisis and a tragic event will have repercussions for all our characters.
Amen, Brother
A shocking tragedy leaves everyone at Fouray Management in panic mode while Barry enlists the help of lawyer Paul Anders (guest star Tip "T.I." Harris).
Runaway
Fouray goes on a partying binge. Nikki spends time with her mother. Ahm and DeeVee reunite to create a track. DeeVee seeks revenge for an act against Damita.
