Social media superstar Sam receives a threatening e-mail that hits too close to home, prompting her to reach out to her ex, Ethan, for advice. Together, the two begin to realize that these strange, connected emails may have larger ramifications for more than just them. Meanwhile, a wallflower's sudden rise to stardom on a hot new app puts her in the cross-hairs of an international syndicate on the dark web.

James, another former classmate, finds himself next on Molly's "hit list" when he receives an e-mail promising a grim escape from "reality".
