Stephen Fry tells the gay history of Britain through the stories of seven remarkable buildings. From the haunting story of Oscar Wilde’s downfall at the Old Bailey and the hedonistic escapism of Heaven nightclub, to the coded diaries of a nineteenth century Halifax heiress. It’s a tale of amazing people and extraordinary events in seven buildings, that have for good or ill defined our country’s gay history. Each of Stephen’s buildings is championed by a famous face including Simon Callow, Mary Portas, Richard Coles and Craig Revel Horwood.

Stephen Fry introduces a celebration of Britain's great gay buildings. The Reverend Richard Coles tells the story of Heaven nightclub in London. Mary Portas pickss Shibden Hall, Yorkshire, where she learns about the revealing diaries of owner Anne Lister. Craig Revel-Horwood picks the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, home of Britain's drag scene. Simon Callow picks the Old Bailey, which has hosted thousands of gay men hve stood trial, including Oscar Wilde. Rikki Beadle-Blair picks the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, a favorite of Sir John Gielgud. Liz Carr picks Bletchley Park for its association with Alan Turing. Lord Alli picks the Houses of Parliament.
