Accompanied by his pet, adoptive brother, and best friend Darwin Watterson, he frequently finds himself involved in various shenanigans around the city, during which he interacts with various family members: Anais, Richard, and Nicole Watterson, and other various citizens.

Fed up with having to listen to Molly's long, tedious anecdotes, Gumball and Darwin try to teach her how to make them sound more exciting. When this doesn't work, they decide their only option is to give Molly a story worth telling.
